Still

By: Olga Rukovets

A young girl beheads roosters
to see them run around
to see what happens when you disconnect
the body.

She wanted to study evolution,
says the village priest couldn’t cure her,
says she still ran away,
says the babies came out silent,
says she couldn’t talk about them any longer.

A man tried to poison her
she says women won’t get any respect,
paints herself orange and cries out
for more.
