Beautiful, Embarrassing (A found poem)

By: Sarah Layden

“I listen to New Age-y self-help books on tape in the car, so sometimes you pull up to valet parking and it’s blasting, like, “You are beautiful!” It’s a little embarrassing.”

—Emily Deschanel, in People magazine

It’s a little embarrassing to be beautiful.
Valet parking is a little New Age-y,
and sometimes blasting a car is a little
like self-help, you listen to beautiful
parking (embarrassing), you pull
a tape and it’s like books, you listen
and it’s like new. Sometimes you are
so beautiful. Sometimes valet parking
is beautiful. A car, listen, a car
on tape is a little beautiful. A little like
a book, blasting. Pull up. I like you.
I tape you, I help the self listen.
So beautiful-like.
