Sometimes the best thing in the frame is the fish. Here are my nominations for the best fish of film and TV:
Gail from The West Wing
Ace newsman Danny wants to win over White House press secretary C.J. Cregg. When a friend tips Danny off that she loves goldfish, he doesn’t realize it’s the kiddie cracker she craves. Enter Gail: one of The West Wing’s unsung performers. Her star turns are numerous—who could forget the scene where there are TWO GAILS in the fish bowl—and one of the series’ most dramatic moments involves C.J. knocking the fishbowl over…and…and…?
The Incredible Mr. Limpet
Don Knotts dazzles as Henry Limpet, a nebbish whose greatness is thrust upon him when he falls into the ocean, turns into a fish, and helps the U.S. Navy locate and destroy Nazi subs.
Carlos K. Krinkelbein from The Cat in the Hat
In the legendary (in my mind) video version of the Seuss book:
The goldfish Carlos K. Krinkelbein chews up the fishbowl with his outrage-fueled performance. He’s right, of course: That cat really should not be there when the mother is out.
